OSBAC Participates in the Unveiling of the Nanjing Massacre Memorial in Toronto

On the afternoon of December 9, 2018, the first overseas “Memorial to the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre” was unveiled at the Irene Cemetery in Richmond Hill, Canada. Hundreds of people from all walks of life, including the Consul General of China in Toronto, representatives of the three levels of government in Canada, and representatives from various sectors of the community, witnessed this historic moment in the bitterly cold wind.
Mr. Luo Jiansheng, Secretary General of the Ontario Shunde Business Association of Canada, and Ms. Mak Kwai Yee, Women’s Director of the Association, were also present at the ceremony.
The monument was jointly initiated by the Toronto Federation of Chinese Organizations and the Toronto Branch of the Canadian Chinese Hung-Men Democracy Party, and took one year to build with the participation of all Chinese associations in Canada and the raising of donations of more than 240,000 Canadian dollars. The monument is made of black granite, the main body of the monument is a rectangular scroll symbolizing the history of the scroll, engraved with the words “Memorial to the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre” and “Remembering History, Praying for Peace” on the face of the monument, and above the scroll there are three doves flying with their wings spreading, and the monument is facing west to east, facing the Chinese community. The monument faces east and west, facing China, the country of origin of the Chinese people.
